You have an old computer which got so slow you can't even use it? This step by step guide will show you how to install Chrome OS on old computers and give them a new dignified life.

At the end of this guide you'll be surprised to see how fast your old computer will become. And you'll have access to your entire online collection of sites: from email, to Facebook, to YouTube.
1

Download CloudReady Chrome OS Installation

CloudReady is Neverware's custom build of Chromium OS that feels and behaves very similarly to the Chrome OS on officially licensed devices.
Neverware provides a CloudReady Home Edition for individuals which you can download from this page: https://www.neverware.com/freedownload

Go ahead and download either the 64 or the 32 bit version - depending on what kind on computer you want to install it on.
2

Download the Chrome Recovery Utility from the Chrome Web Store

Open a Google Chrome browser, search for Chromebook Recovery Utility extension and install it.
3

Create a Chrome OS bootable USB stick

Plug an 8GB or 16GB USB stick into your computer. Run the Chromebook Recovery Utility, click the Gear icon in the top right corner and click Use Local Image. Select the CloudReady file you've just downloaded.
Then select your USB stick and click Continue.

The process of creating the bootable USB stick will take some time so please be patient.
4

Boot your old compuer from the Chrome OS USB stick

You may need to do a bit of research on how to get your old device to boot from USB. You usually have to access the BIOS (by pressing the F2 key when booting for example) and set the USB drive as the primary booting device.

Once you did that your old computer will start running Chrome OS from the USB stick.
5

Install CloudReady Chrome OS and overwrite your existing OS

In order to fully install CloudReady and overwrite your existing OS go to the settings panel (click the clock in the bottom right corner). Then click "Install CloudReady".

At the end of the installation process the computer will shut down. You can remove the USB stick and start the computer.

Enjoy your new Chrome OS.
